The Driver Handbook now includes Driving for Better Business Van Driver Toolkit

6 March 2023

In collaboration with Driving for Better Business (DfBB), The Driver Handbook has now made the Van Driver Toolkit available to users of its mobile app for drivers.

Customers of The Driver Handbook can now access the DfBB Van Driver Toolkit which has been produced by DfBB with the National Highways Commercial Vehicle Incident Prevention Team. The Toolkit is a series of information modules to help fleet operators and van drivers dispel uncertainty and myth.

The new content, available via The Driver Handbook, allows operators to share the entire toolkit with drivers, or to include individual modules to help check understanding of best practice, or reinforce driving for work policies. As with all The Driver Handbook content, managers can chart drivers’ progress through the information and make use of The Driver Handbook Knowledge Check functionality to further assess driver comprehension.

Glen Davies, Managing Director, The Driver Handbook said: “Driving for work is the riskiest activity that employees face, resulting in unnecessary death, life changing injury and chaos on the road network. Making our roads safer needs collaboration and we are proud to announce The Driver Handbook’s partnership with the National Highways Driving for Better Business programme.  Effective communication is key to improving driver awareness, behaviour and competence and we will be promoting the excellent Driving for Better Business resources through The Driver Handbook app. We also look forward to co-creating new resources that address some of the most sensitive issues that drivers face”.

Driving for Better Business is a government-backed National Highways programme to help employers in both the private and public sectors reduce work-related road risk, control the associated costs and improve compliance with current legislation and guidance. It is free to access and contains useful online tools and resources to help:

  • evaluate practices
  • strengthen culture
  • enhance performance and demonstrate leadership in the management of work-related road risk

Anne-Marie Penny, National Highways’ lead for Driving for Better Business said “We’re delighted to be working with Glen and the team at The Driver Handbook. Many employers may not be fully aware of their responsibilities to manage their driving risk as they would other health and safety risks. Together, with The Driver Handbook team, we can work with organisations to keep their drivers doing their jobs safely, legally, and efficiently.  Everyone has the right to get home safe and well”.
