Safe speed

20 January 2025

THINK! has relaunched its ‘Is pushing it worth it’ speed campaign which aligns perfectly with the first toolbox talk in our 2025 campaign plan. Speed contributes to more than half of all fatal collisions on UK roads, many happen whilst driving within the speed limit but too fast for the road or weather conditions.

January’s Safe Speed Toolbox Talk reminds drivers of the road and traffic conditions where speed needs to be considered and covers:

  • National speed limits on all road types for all vehicles including Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland variations
  • Restricted speed limits in built up areas including 20mph urban speed limit in Wales and cities across the UK
  • Speed considerations in a range of conditions including adverse weather, night driving and roadworks
  • The moral and legal consequences of speeding including videos from the national THINK! campaign

The speed limit for the road or the vehicle is the absolute maximum speed anyone should travel at, but it doesn’t mean it’s safe to drive at that speed irrespective of conditions. The impact of speeding can be devastating and the difference of a few miles per hour can mean the difference between life and death.
