Protea Training meets challenges head on with The Driver Handbook

22 February 2022

One of the biggest challenges faced by transport consultants is communicating the plethora of information to drivers to ensure they have access to essential regulatory and compliance instructions and guidance. As part of Protea Training’s transport consultancy toolkit, The Driver Handbook has been deployed across the company’s client-base to help Protea work more efficiently and effectively.

By helping its customers understand the market availability of best practice products and services to help maintain compliance, road safety and operational efficiency, means Protea Training is able to offer a comprehensive service to transport operators.

As an early adopter of The Driver Handbook, Protea Training quickly saw the benefits of using both The Driver Handbook’s mobile app for drivers and TDHConnect® content management software. Now in use with over 35 operators, Protea Training uses The Driver Handbook to help:

  • ensure its customers operate within the 11 undertakings of the O Licence
  • those who are FORS accredited and the various associated communication requirements of the FORS Standard
  • distribute and monitor customers’ own business communication objectives

Using The Driver Handbook, Protea Training now centrally manages all of its operators to minimise duplication of effort, time spent on customer sites, the need to travel and even paper and ink usage.

The Driver Handbook comprises a mobile app for drivers, enabled by TDHConnect® a powerful content management system which puts fleet managers in full control of sharing up-to-the-minute essential information and accessing live reporting on driver progress and comprehension. Core to the solution are industry-leading handbooks, toolbox talks, template declarations, a library of policies and much more. All content can be customised and supplemented with operators’ specific information and delivered direct to a driver’s device.

Paul Smithson, Director, Protea Training Co said “Using The Driver Handbook is a powerful proposition for my customers as it allows me to offer a range of additional benefits. It means I can distribute quality, trusted information; and the speed I am able to do this is second to none. I know all my customers’ drivers receive the same consistent messages and being able to do this centrally from where ever I am saves me a huge amount of time and effort”. He continued “For my customers, they are able to quickly identify drivers who may need additional support and training via the analytics and reporting in The Driver Handbook; it also means drivers are able to focus on their core roles as managers don’t need to physically gather drivers together to share information and obtain signatures”.

“This collaboration with Paul and the wider Protea customer base is an ideal approach for The Driver Handbook,” said Glen Davies, Managing Director, The Driver Handbook. “When Paul approached us it was exciting to be able to see how we could help him deliver an enhanced service to his customers, particularly as Paul was the first to identify the opportunities which benefit all parties in the process. Collaboration is key to The Driver Handbook’s business strategy, we know the transport industry extremely well and that strong partnerships are vital to succeed.

The Driver Handbook is available as a standalone app, or with access to TDHConnect® and is offered via annual licence for any size fleet. Training and support is available to all TDHConnect® users at no cost, throughout the duration of a contract.
